Miss Mustard Seed on Vacation July 16, 2013

When you take a few days off for some old fashioned rest and relaxation, how many of you find a piece if furniture to paint?

I mean, how could I ask for a nicer place to meet with my buddy, Miss Mustard Seed? No, I’m not talking about the real-live-Marian, aka Miss Mustard Seed. I’m talking about the wonderful line of milk paint, we sell on- line (free shipping: shameless plug!) and at the shop.

This little table was handed down through Bob’s family for generations. It had a number of “battle scars”, though still sweet and sturdy. I decided to paint it in Linen, a creamy white.

While I am a long way off from achieving “expert status” in the world of milk paint, I do know that:
1. You’ll need as many as 4 coats, when covering dark wood, with a light color. Maybe less water in the mix would be helpful too.
2. One of best things is that you don’t get ridges, from brush strokes, after multiple coats, like you can with other paints.
3. You should bring a larger drop cloth, when working at a home you share with other siblings!
4. I can be a wimp, when it comes to distressing. I have yet to become a true risk taker. I keep waiting!

Since the piece will be used in a home I share with the sibs, I’m going for a very boring conservative look. I used bonding agent and will do little if any distressing.

Sherry, at Design Indulgence, goes to Scott’s Antiques, in the Atlanta area, for clients, on a regular basis. (Someday, I’m going across the country, to check this place out!) She showed a picture of this mint colored cabinet.

The bold and the beautiful! Gorgeous, yet elegant!

I need to make a pledge:
I, (insert name) will stop painting everything in safe, muted tones. I will layer, layer, and layer some more. And, I will boldly leave the bonding agent on the shelf and let her “distress”, to her heart’s content. If the piece doesn’t feel like distressing, I’ll show her who’s boss and distress her anyway!
— The End —

Who knows! The next time I’m up here I may paint this:

Or, this…..

Back to the shop tomorrow. Patti’s done a stellar job, taking care of business for me and greeting our wonderful customers. Bless you, Patti!

Just 4 DAYS LEFT until the Paint Extravaganza! Demo’s, free paint to the first 50 customers, hundreds of dollars in prizes and Mr. Wonderful will be at the grill, from 11-2, cooking free burgers!

See you soon!

I say GO FOR IT BARB! All of your pieces are amazing and I know your distressed ones will be perfect ….well perfectly imperfect!

Hey Marcie, How’s that arm feeling? You’ve got to get painting, with that thing! We can have a contest, to see who can create the wildest piece of furniture. Seriously, that would be fun!
      Cheers!, Barbara

You’ve got a gorgeous view there! I don’t find furniture…I find rocks and driftwood! 😉

    • Barbara Bussey on July 18, 2013 at 8:08 am

Rocks and driftwood certainly work! I like to find the smooth rocks, in neat shapes. It all works!
      Hugs, Barbara

Hi Karena, Yes, they are! I just need to do it when no one’s looking! Sort of like taking the last cookie when I was 8!
      Take care, Barbara

Love keeping up with you via your blogs. I’ll be tapping my foot waiting for that first “bold” piece to happen!

    • Barbara Bussey on July 18, 2013 at 8:04 am

Hang in there Barbara! I’m not sure when it will happen, but it’s gotta be buried inside of me, somewhere!
      Thanks for being here!

    Hey Barbara,
    My arm isn’t any better : (
I saw a orthopedic surgeon today who wants an MRI done. He thinks its a rotator cuff tear which if it is means surgery and a long recovery process. Keeping my fingers…and toes crossed that its not.
You’re right I need to get to painting!! I finished the dresser done in Green Apple and its beautiful!!!
Hope your paint extravaganza goes awesome!!!

Love the table and only you would paint while on vacation. If you come to Scott’s in Atlanta, we have to go together. I’m ashamed to say, I’ve never been there.
